I love teaching these classes. I love meeting these women, and hearing about their interest in burlesque, and I love being able to teach them about it.
I get so happy when I see that they are so natural, and pick up what I am telling them. I love teaching them, but telling them to be creative and not do exactly what I am doing, to put their own twist on it, and then I learn from them.
I love to meet interesting new people, and hear about what what they do in their everyday lives.
The new venue is perfect. It has a sound system, stage, and lights so my students can feel like they are in a real theater. It is in Downtown Detroit, which is alive and full of energy in the summer.
My friend and retro hair-stylist Angela was my assistant for this class and she was super helpful.
I went right from classes at Studio 601 to hang out at the Bucharest Grill and eat the best Vegetarian Schawrma in town, before my show at Cliff Bells with Torch with a Twist.
Someone told Grace and Lindsay that my birthday was Wednesday, so I was put in the birthday chair for the balloon dance. I was on the receiving end of a burlesque balloon dance from the fabulous Jessica Rabbit.
It was a great day in Detroit. |

Last night I was part of the 2008 Detroit Fringe Festival, an art and performance art show. It was held at the Music Hall located in downtown Detroit. We had one of the best dressing rooms I have ever experienced at a show, Actual vanity type mirrors stations with lights. I could get used to this.
We went on at 5, for an hour long set, and I performed 3 acts. I did my very first balloon dance, a classic burlesque act that I have always wanted to try. I was glad Lyndsay our super stage manager was there to set me up.
This girl has preparing dancers for a balloon act down to an efficient science. Next I did my fan dance, to "Why don't you do right." I was walking down the stairs from the stage back to the dressing room to do a costume change, and Sandra Bernhard and her entourage were walking up. I was full of stage energy and nervousness, carrying my plastic storage container that I keep my fans in, and just said, "hey thanks for coming." to which she replied "sure." The third act was a shadow dance to big spender.
After the show, we ate some pizza back stage while listening to Polka Floyd, a Pink Floyd tribute band as they were performing on stage directly over our heads.
Me and Jen House aka Carlyle C Carlyle J Wentworthy, comedian.
 Grace Detroit, and Tigerlily
The rest of the night was spent checking out the art upstairs, and at the tables outside and watching our fellow torch twisters while they played with fire, and entertained the people passing by coming out of the Tigers game, and walking the streets on the first somewhat warm weekend day in Detroit in months.

| » Chicago: Glitter Glamour party of Angela Eve's Twisted Tassel Burlesque Festival |
Friday I drove though an incredible snowstorm across the entire state of Michigan to do my first gig out of the Detroit/Windsor area.
The weather started getting bad around Ann Arbor, and then proceeded to dump snow down with out salt or plowing until I reached the southwestern Michigan city of Benton Harbor. I took a brief time out at the rest stop in Marshall to start half of my makeup, eat a couple of crackers, and decompress. The sky was a blanket of grey and bright white. No sunshine just bright bright white. I saw overturned cars, cars off the road, and I even saw one car on fire!
I got lost in Chicago because this Detroit girl did not understand the difference between express and local lanes, and my google maps directions did not explain it. (I am getting a GPS unit) When I finally arrived at the cross streets to the venue, the nice people of Chicago pointed me into the right direction to the Debonair Social club. The dressing room was in the basement of the bar, that all seemed to be interconnected with the buildings next to it. I had just seen a history channel show the week before that told me some of the buildings in Chicago are all connected for hiding booze, and prostitutes, during prohibition, and I wondered if I was in one of those buildings.
I met some beautiful ladies, with all kinds of performance styles from classic to modern. There were singing striptease artists, and gore-horror striptease goth goddesses. Angela Eve, the host of the festival, was gorgeous and did a great Cowgirl act to live music by the Hot Rod Hucksters.
I did my fan dance to songs by my favorite band Clutch. It fit good in this night mixing the classic fan dance elements with some modern music. I was delighted to see two guys in the audience singing along to "Eight Times over Miss October."
Other than the horrible drive, it was a truely great experience, I hope to perform in other cities and burlesque festivals soon, and I would go back to Chicago anytime....but preferably in the Spring or Summer.
